£8m for retrofit skills announced

If you’re interested in making homes more energy efficient or building a career in sustainability – this new training opportunity could be for you.

The Warm Homes Skills Programme is offering subsidised training for up to 9,000 people in home energy efficiency and retrofit skills – helping build the skilled workforce needed to make homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run.

What’s on Offer?

The programme includes training courses across four key areas:

• Insulation and Solar Panel Installation: Training on installing insulation materials and solar photovoltaic systems.
• Non-Domestic Building Skills: Specialised training for energy efficiency improvements in commercial and public buildings.
• Retrofit Assessor and Coordinator Qualifications: Accredited courses leading to qualifications necessary for assessing and coordinating retrofit projects.
• Entry-Level Courses: Short courses designed for individuals new to the retrofit sector, including the newly added Level 3 Award in ‘Introduction to Domestic Retrofit’.

All courses are designed to industry standards, helping people gain the skills needed to support the UK’s transition to Net Zero.

Plymouth has a significant number of older homes that can benefit from better insulation and energy upgrades.  By training local people in retrofit skills we can:

• Create warmer, more comfortable homes
• Reduce our city’s carbon emissions
