Car Free Day 2024

This weekend we are inviting you to take part in Car Free Day and experience the city in a new way! Instead of hopping in your car, why not explore Plymouth and surrounding areas by foot, bike or public transport? You’ll be amazed at how enjoyable your journey can be- plus you’ll be doing your bit with your community to help reduce emissions.

Plymouth has plenty to offer and explore and it is all within easy reach:

Discover the city on foot:

• Follow historic trails through the Barbican and Royal William Yard, both accessible by bus (Number 25 or 34). Download the Plymouth trails app for guides and route options. Plymouth Trails App – Visit Plymouth
• Visit your green spaces and use the love exploring app for a virtual trail with your family. Love Exploring – Love Exploring

Cycle your way around:

• Head to Dartmoor via the Plym Trail cycle path on a beautiful ride through the woodlands.
• Hire a bike from Plymouth Bike Hire or hop on a Beryl e-bike.
• Saltram House is just a short cycle from the city centre with a scenic route and a café to stop for a bite to eat.
• You can get 15 minutes free on the Beryl e-bikes by using code ‘CFD24’.

Hop aboard a ferry:

• Take the ferry from the barbican and spend the day wondering the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand.
• Hop on the Mount Edgcumbe ferry from Royal William Yard to explore the gardens and take in the views of Plymouth sound.

A trip on the train:

• With three train stations in Plymouth, you can travel a little differently as you move across the city.
• Travelling out of Plymouth you can take the Tamar Valley Line for a scenic countryside ride to Calstock or a seaside trip to Totnes.

Take the bus:

• With over 60 bus routes and £2 singles you can explore all corners of Plymouth this weekend. Plymouth Network Map May 2024
• Looking for something further afield, there are a number of buses which can take you into Cornwall for the day visiting areas such as Padstow, Polperro and Looe. Or go further into Devon for a day out in Paignton.

So why not get out and about this weekend and travel a little differently, you’ll be doing your bit for the environment, improving your health and wellbeing and taking action together.
