Climate Talks in Plymouth

Have you ever wondered what climate change negotiations actually do? Or how you can make a difference? Now’s your chance to find out! To mark the COP28 global climate talks, Climate Action Plymouth is hosting a series of events.

5th December – System Update at Plymouth Arts Cinema

Our first event sees a special showing at Plymouth Arts Cinema of System Update. This new documentary, narrated by Prof Dyke is a call to action to face the stark reality of climate change, and find a path towards hope. The story is told through leading experts, including younger changemakers. It shows how we must and can change our systems to avert disaster.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Paul Maple. Tickets £5 Full Price / £4 Concession

6 December – Charting our Climate Future

Join us for a free interactive event on 6 December in partnership with Plymouth Global. We’re honoured to be joined by academic and author James Dyke alongside three local panellists.

Professor Dyke will critically examine the role of the COP meetings in galvanising international action on the climate crisis. Our panel of Zoe Smith, Olasumbo Olaniyi and Katie Thiessen will also speak and there’ll be time for you to ask questions, too.  Free entry and refreshments.

10 December – Winners of Haikus and Images Announced

On Sunday, we’ll be unveiling the winners of our haiku and photography competition.

A selection of the haikus and photos submitted will feature in a week-long exhibition, The Mindful Activist, in the Theatre Royal Plymouth from 10th December. The prize giving and launch of the exhibition will be at 2 pm on 10th December in the Theatre Royal Plymouth. Cllr Tom Briars-Delve, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment for Plymouth City Council, will award the prizes.  There will be refreshments and live music.
