A creative hands on workshop using textiles, drawing, print and text. Join us as we continue to develop a collective map of the conversations, stories and relationships we have with the sea in Plymouth as part of There is no new water…

We will build on the drawings, poems and keywords we have amassed in previous sessions alongside the local knowledge you have of Plymouth and the East End and bring them together on our map, as well as creating some simple poetic phrases or slogans for some banners we want to develop with you. The map will continue to be worked on and become a layered record of place and the project through our work together.

You don’t need to have attended the previous session to be a part of this workshop as your knowledge of place and your relationship to the sea and Plymouth is enough. All welcome

We will be

• Drawing, printing and using text
• Creating a text based slogan or question we can work with

This session is part of an on-going enquiry with Owen Griffiths as part of There is No New Water – Toolkit for Ocean Citizen Action. This 10-month project invites local people to explore what the ocean means to them, reflect on their role as coastal citizens, and co-create a community-led artwork/toolkit focused on ocean justice, care, and climate action.

All sessions are free and open to anyone based in Plymouth who is passionate about Ocean Civic Justice and happy to spend time in the East End.

Ocean Cultures is a two-year programme funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, aiming to establish a community-led model for ocean climate justice in Plymouth, UK.
