A greener tourist destination

In February 2022, Destination Plymouth launched an ambitious three-year partnership with Green Tourism to position Britain’s Ocean City as a leading destination in sustainable tourism.

Available to all tourism, leisure, hospitality, heritage, and culture businesses and organisations, the scheme gives eligible businesses the opportunity to achieve the internationally recognised ‘Green Tourism Standard’ while supporting them to recover and grow in an environmentally sustainable way.

Since then, the programme has welcomed more than 40 new members – including The Box Plymouth, Mount Batten Centre, and The Cottages at Blackadon Farm, who in July became the first business to complete the assessment and achieve Gold Award accreditation.

In the last 10 months, a number of businesses have discovered more about the benefits of Green Tourism through a range of events and courses. These include Green Edge Training, Sustainability Webinars, Green Meetings, Carbon Footprint Workshops, and Welcome Host Gold Training.

These in-person and online webinars events are designed to help businesses in Plymouth and the surrounding areas to make a positive environmental impact, provide a better experience for customers and make long-term savings on their bottom line.
