Description
On Earth Day 22nd April 2022, we launched Plymouth’s first-ever Mass Sowing Day. Pollenize equipped every school child in in Plymouth with a free packet of our Wildflower Seeds; that's 37,000 Eco-Heroes! The Seeds for Schools project enabled kids to take climate action into their own hands by creating their own patches of pollinator havens. They could also log their sowing coordinates to a huge rewilding map-creating a young army of citizen scientists.
Wildflower meadows play a pivotal role in providing both shelter and nourishment for crucial pollinators like bees. Furthermore, urban wildflower areas have been proven to enhance air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and sequester carbon, making them a potent weapon against climate change.
Accomplishments on this remarkable day included:
- Participation from over 90 schools
- Distribution of 37,000 seed packets
- Hosting two vibrant community events
- Earning national news coverage
- Offering a lifeline to local wildlife
Together, we're sowing the seeds of positive change for our planet!
