South West Water is inviting applications for its Water Saving Community Fund, a scheme designed to help communities across the South West reduce water use and embrace sustainable practices. This fund is an opportunity for schools, charities and local groups to turn great ideas into projects that make a real impact.

The fund supports initiatives that deliver measurable tap-water savings while benefiting the wider community. Whether you want to install rainwater harvesting systems, create water-efficient gardens or run educational workshops, this funding can help bring your plans to life.

Who can apply?

The fund is open to a wide range of applicants, including registered charities, community interest companies, schools, colleges and academies. Smaller groups such as allotment associations, sports clubs and gardening groups are also encouraged to apply. Applications for grants under £1,000 are reviewed monthly, while proposals for £1,000 or more are assessed twice a year – in April and October.

What can the funding cover?

Funding can be used for equipment purchase or hire, building materials, skills training and professional fees for specialist work. The aim is to make water-saving projects achievable and impactful for communities across the region.

Last year, South West Water awarded £56,175 across 21 projects, saving more than 2.7 million litres of tap water. One standout example is HealthScape CIC, which installed rainwater harvesting systems for polytunnels and raised beds, collecting up to 6,000 litres of rainwater. This project not only saved water but also supported mental health and wellbeing, with surplus produce donated to local food banks.

“Each project we support helps to save tap water, protect our beautiful environment and save money on bills,” said Paul Dommett, Water Efficiency Delivery Manager at South West Water.
