About our climate journey
- What have you achieved so far?
BCR Associates has transformed from a traditional energy consultancy/broker model into a fully integrated Net Zero energy consultancy. We’ve achieved EcoVadis Bronze accreditation (top 35% globally) and became a certified B Corp in April 2025, embedding sustainability and transparency into every aspect of our operations. We’ve introduced Visible Carbon and Visible Energy to help clients monitor and reduce emissions, and are now guiding over 400 businesses on pathways to Net Zero.
- Where did you start?
We began by learning about what it means to our business and our existing clients, we started monitoring and measuring our own footprint, understanding our carbon baseline and reducing waste and travel emissions before aligning operations and services to support clients’ Net Zero goals. A key milestone was integrating sustainability into our governance, policies, and culture, ensuring every team member understood our purpose: to reduce cost, consumption, and carbon.
- What challenges have you faced along the way?
The sustainability part of the journey was always in the founders ethos, our choice was to change the entire business model of the company not only to align with Net zero but provide guidance for our hundreds of clients. The biggest challenge was in fact transitioning our entire business model from an established cost management specialist/ broker consultancy in the 2000’s to, post 2015, develop into our current model delivering a consultative Net Zero partnership model. It has required retraining staff, investing in technology and adapting rapidly to the evolving legislation, standards and expectations.
- Have you experienced any wider benefits?
Absolutely. Beyond emissions reduction, this transition has strengthened our brand reputation, improved client retention, and fostered a culture of purpose and positive accountability. Staff engagement is higher, and clients see us as a trusted sustainability partner rather than just watch their energy costs.
- What are your next plans?
Our next phase focuses on helping 110 manufacturing UK clients to improve their business resilience, win more tenders, reduce costs by using their sustainability and Net Zero journey for a business advantage. We’re expanding our Visible Carbon subscription services, launching EcoVadis training, and exploring ‘at scale’ decarbonisation (microgrid solar and battery projects) to deliver real positive outcomes for manufacturers.
