Community in print
Organisation Bio
Community in print provides sustainable arts workshops and ethical illustrative prints to promote positive action, joy and agency when thinking about the climate.
Focusing on joy, these workshops allow people to learn new skills, build new narratives, and imagine new futures, with their own actions and agency at the centre. Community in print also works with organisations to help businesses, as well as communities, explore how climate action can be embedded into their organisation, as well as running creative workshops to benefit employee mental health.
Product/Services
What we provide
Sustainable arts workshops and ethical illustrative prints to promote positive action, joy and agency when thinking about the climate.
There are two strands:
1. Working with business owners and management who want to explore how the business can move in a more sustainable direction, through a facilitated creative workshop that provides a safe space to investigate what direction the company may want to take to achieve net zero.
2. Team days and wellness sessions to boost employee wellbeing and increase positive mental health through creative workshops. All workshops are sustainable and have an environmental or natural theme, and are tailored to the organisation and group.
This is alongside community creative workshops and the sale of environmentally themed artwork that are produced to the highest ethical and sustainable standards. Profits from which go towards offering subsidised community workshops so that everyone has access to the arts and can explore their relationship to the climate.
About our climate journey
Community in print began in January 2023 and was set up to provide a safe place for people to engage in the climate crisis without fear, through creative workshops. Focusing on joy, transformation and agency, these workshops allow the local community to come together, learn new skills, build new narratives and imagine a better future, for improved mental health and an increased sense of agency. In the first year we have achieved a lot, including:
We have run 10 community workshops, with 82 people attending across all of these events. The workshops ranged from creative walking tours, to collage, ceramics and lino-printing.
We exhibited at four exhibitions showcasing both the creative workshops and artworks themed on climate action. Sales across these exhibits went on to fund three additional creative workshops.
We exhibited at 7 makers markets and art fairs across Devon and Cornwall.
Secured funding from 3 funders - local and national.
Partnered with 12 local organisations including Ocean Studios, the University of Plymouth and The Printery.
Looking ahead we want to grow the amount of workshops that we are able to offer within the community, alongside partnering with local businesses to run team days with employees to improve mental health and offer a sustainable, local and creative option for team building.
