About our climate journey
What have you achieved so far?
We have successfully integrated sustainable practices across all levels of our operations, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Our efforts include implementing energy-efficient systems, reducing waste, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility within our organisation. Specifically, our pioneering use of Greenly's carbon management tools and the integration of Cosmic smart plugs are propelling us towards our ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. Additionally, we have launched fully funded training programmes aimed at equipping professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to support net zero initiatives.
Where did you start?
Our journey began with a comprehensive audit of our environmental impact, identifying key areas where we could make meaningful changes. This initial step involved assessing our energy usage, waste management practices, and overall sustainability policies. One of the first things we started to measure was the miles saved from not travelling to in-person meetings and holding them online. This significant shift not only reduced our carbon footprint but also highlighted the potential for operational efficiency and cost savings. Our Staff Working Group (SWG), focused year-round on driving initiatives, has been instrumental in spearheading these efforts and driving our commitment to sustainability.
What challenges have you faced along the way?
One of the significant challenges we faced was shifting the mindset of both our team and stakeholders towards sustainability. Overcoming resistance to change and ensuring everyone understood the importance of our environmental goals required considerable effort. Additionally, integrating new sustainable technologies and practices into our existing systems posed logistical and financial challenges. Identifying major sources of CO2 emissions, such as staff mileage, and finding innovative ways to reduce them without compromising the quality of our work was also a notable challenge.
Have you experienced any wider benefits?
Yes, our commitment to sustainability has not only benefitted the environment but also enhanced our reputation and relationships with clients and partners. Our sustainability initiatives have led to cost savings through more efficient resource use and have fostered a sense of pride and responsibility among our employees. Moreover, our funded training programmes have created new opportunities for professionals to advance their careers while contributing to a greener future. The reduction in miles travelled and CO2 saved through virtual meetings has also demonstrated wider benefits, including improved operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
What are your next plans?
Looking ahead, we plan to further expand our sustainability initiatives by exploring renewable energy options and continuing to innovate in our eco-friendly practices. We aim to increase the reach of our net zero training programmes, helping more organisations and individuals contribute to a sustainable future. Additionally, we have staff working groups focused all year round on driving initiatives. We now report annually on our social and environmental impact, which is key to our goals as an organisation.
