Organisation Bio

Devon Climate Emergency is a partnership of 30 organisations working together to create a resilient, net-zero carbon Devon where people and nature thrive! The partnership has representatives from all of Devon's local authorities, including Torbay and Plymouth, as well as from organisations in the following sectors - environmental, research , public health, business, utility operators and emergency services.

About our climate journey

The partnership declared a climate and ecological emergency in 2019, producing the Devon Climate Declaration. At the invitation of the partnership, an independent Net Zero Task Force developed the Devon Carbon Plan - Devon's pathway to halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero by 2050 at the latest. The Plan includes carbon budgets developed with the University of Exeter, following the recommendations of the Climate Change Committee.

Each year the University of Exeter calculates Devon's carbon footprint so that emissions can be tracked against the carbon budgets. Devon Climate Emergency is collaborating regionally on climate adaptation through the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Climate Impacts Group, which is chaired by the Environment Agency. This group has produced a regional Climate Adaptation Strategy.

The partnership produces a progress report on one theme of the Devon Carbon Plan each month, so that each theme is reported on twice a year, including the Climate Adaptation Action Plan. The progress reports are published on our website and highlight any actions which are not progressing so solutions can be considered by the partnership. Activity happening across Devon is also captured in 'Taking Action' posts on our website and shared on social media and in our newsletter.
