Organisation Bio

Devon & Cornwall Police operates in the largest geographical force area in England serving 4,000 square miles, covering 7,300 miles of coastline, six inhabited islands with 2,230 square miles of rural countryside. We patrol 13,600 miles of road protecting 1.7 million people that rises to 11 million in the summer.

The ability to evolve is vital in today’s policing, therefore, as the world continues to change, so will we. As the representative of the people, the Police & Crime Commissioner will hold the Chief Constable to account for delivering an effective, efficient and sustainable police Force for the people of Devon & Cornwall.

What we provide

Devon and Cornwall Police is responsible for policing the counties of Devon and Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly). Our purpose is to deliver community policing with competence, compassion and a common-sense approach, and our Police and Crime Plan is to deliver safe, resilient and connected communities, which underpins our actions.

Our additional investment in officers now means that we have more police officers on our streets than ever, and positive action in recruitment is making our Force more diverse and reflective of the communities we serve. We are committed to sustaining our officer numbers, making our communities safer, and supporting the natural environment of Devon and Cornwall in the process.

About our climate journey

Since the launch of our Carbon Management Plan in 2009 we have reduced our carbon footprint (scope 1 & scope 2 emissions) by 33.2%, which is a saving of 5,297 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

We recognise that as the world continues to change, so will we. Therefore, in 2022 we launched a joint Sustainability Strategy with the Police & Crime Commissioner, which builds on our previous success and elevates our commitment to deliver an effective sustainability programme.

We are working to a target net zero date of 2040 for our frontline footprint (scopes 1, 2 and some scope 3 emissions) and 2050 for our full organisational carbon footprint.
