Devon Environment Foundation
Organisation Bio
The Devon Environment Foundation is a member of the Conservation Collective - a global network of local foundations funding effective grassroots initiatives that protect and restore nature, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
DEF specialises in identifying the most innovative and impactful grassroots nature-based solutions in Devon, providing vital kick-start or scale-up support. Nature-based slutions provide uplifting and cost-effective ways to tackle the climate and nature crisis - they sequester carbon; increase biodiversity; prevent flooding, droughts & soil erosion; reduce and clean up pollution; and offer opportunities for people to connect with nature.
We are independent and agile, directing funds where they are needed to deliver the greatest benefits for nature.
About our climate journey
Since our launch in summer 2020, we’ve supported 56 brilliant grassroots projects, awarding more than £740,000 grants.
Our priority is to increase the amount of funding available for local nature restoration in the UK by showcasing project successes and inspiring more people and organisations to get involved.
The projects we fund focus on 4 key impact areas:
1. Protecting an restoring natural habitats
2. Helping native species to thrive
3. Slowing down and adapting to climate change
4. Reducing pollution
