Organisation Bio

Fotonow bring together expertise in media production, creative education and community projects that make a difference to people’s lives. We’ve been based in Plymouth since 2010, and work across the region on a wide array of projects. We use creative media as a powerful and inclusive tool to enable people’s voices to be heard. Our work is rooted in place; we nurture possibility and ambition; we create positive social change for individuals and tangible outcomes for the communities we serve. As a social enterprise, the profits we earn we reinvest to support our social aims.

About our climate journey

We at Fotonow are gravely concerned about the serious social and environmental consequences of the climate crisis. Human wellbeing is inextricably linked to the natural environment and our society is reliant on a stable ecosystem. We are concerned that the impacts of the climate crisis will not be felt equally, with the most vulnerable in society likely to suffer the greatest impacts of climate change. As a social enterprise our core business aim is to work with people and communities for a better future. Inaction on climate change ultimately puts our ability to achieve this at risk. Therefore we are making this declaration and set of commitments as an organisation, making clear that “business as usual” is no longer an option. We have developed a decarbonisation plan for our business which will see us publicly report on our progress and share our experiences of initiatives we undertake. We reject funding from organisations linked to the fossil fuel industry.

Biggest climate achievement to date

We were one of the first businesses in Plymouth to declare a climate emergency. We have worked on a number of really impactful environmental projects and supported other social enterprises sharing their work in this area. We have worked on developing Climate Connections Plymouth and are developing further engagement work to help shape a greener Plymouth!

Most difficult climate challenge faced

Getting accurate emissions accounting that we can compare year on year. We also don't control our energy supplier and have to persuade landlords to change to a renewable source of supply.

Best climate advice or tip for others

The climate emergency is the biggest challenge of our time and making time to change practices and connect with organisations that have expertise to help reimagine your business is crucial.
