Organisation Bio

Situated in the heart of the city centre equidistant between the Historic Barbican and Waterfront, the picturesque Plymouth Hoe, and the bustling Centre itself, THINQTANQ was the first true coworking space in Plymouth. Since 2014 it has grown into the best place in the city to innovate, create and do business and now it is the only place to work if you care about making a positive change in the world.

We provide a range of work, office and meeting spaces, additional services and events to support the changing needs of the modern individual in making a difference in the world and for every member, every month, we plant trees, offset carbon and do good.

THINQTANQ has always been a social enterprise, but as of 2022, it is also a not for profit organisation too.

About our climate journey

In our journey to date, we have installed solar panels and are in the process of replacing our old lighting with energy efficient lighting as it fails. We have created a system to monitor energy use, temperatures within the building and monitor air quality to ensure that we are being as efficient as possible. We have filled our workspace with plants to help purify the air and create a vibrant work environment and we have funded the planting of 15,000+ trees and over 300 tons of CO2 avoidance/reduction.

We have electric pool bikes available for members and we also house some of the most incredible climate focused businesses such as Borrow Don't Buy and The invertebrate charity, Buglife.

Most difficult climate challenge faced

Funding the changes is always a challenge. We have been so lucky to have support from Plymouth City Council through the Crowdfunding Match funds and various other stakeholders including our building owner Cher Varya Limited. We have no shortage of ideas and the will to implement them but we have to tightly manage budgets to ensure we will still be here in another 10 years beating the drum for Climate Action.

Best climate advice or tip for others

Making big changes is often expensive and we have very tight margins which means we often have to compromise in the short term. This leaves us open to criticism and helping people understand that doing the best you can with what you have is the only way to make change over time. Never let perfection be the enemy of progress.
