PEOPLE’S CLIMATE SUMMIT

SPACE A: PEOPLE
🌿 Uprooting colonial & capitalist approaches to the Climate Crisis (2-3pm)
Toni Spencer (Devon Un/Learning Journey)
We are swimming in explicit and unconscious patterns of harm, rooted in colonial, class and capitalist world views. How do we make sure these don’t live on in our approaches to Climate Justice? Through stories of ‘a Devon Un/Learning Journey’ (a project looking back at Devon’s colonial past to see how it informs today’s activism, and creative ways to face uncertain futures) – we’ll explore opportunities for inner and outer change.

🌿 Strategies and Movement Ecology (3:15-4:15pm)
Sjoerd de Koning (Plymouth Hub for Climate Justice)
How can we work together better as a movement? In this workshop we’ll explore the diverse strategies that we (can) use. By staying playful, courageous and inquisitive, we will work towards developing self awareness and emotional literacy that supports our movement building work.

🌿 Climate Anxiety (4:30-5:30pm)
Marc Gardiner & Debbie Freeman (Zebra Collective)
The size and severity of the climate crisis can be anxiety-provoking. We can feel powerless and demotivated by it. This workshop explores possibilities for engaging differently, putting us in touch with our power and potential and remotivating us to be part of the global efforts to respond to the crisis.

SPACE B: PLANET
🌿 The Climate Science and implications for Climate Justice (2-3pm)
Tony Staunton (Campaign against Climate Change)
Climate Science: the facts, predictions and what has to be done to protect people and the planet, and survive. There can be no climate solutions without climate justice.

🌿 Perma-culture vs Temporary-culture (3:15-4:15pm)
Tess Wilmot (Food Plymouth)
Conversation about Permaculture and how it can enable us to see things more clearly and find positive solutions to the climate crisis. Observation and identifying patterns in nature can help us identify patterns in social behaviour and to be a catalyst for change.

🌿 Demystifying the COPs and what we can do about them (4:30-5:30pm)
Joanna Read (ex- UK Youth Climate Coalition and ex- YOUNGO Focal Point)
Confused what actually goes on at the COPs? Want to know how we can translate that into local action on climate change? Joanna’s been to 7 UNFCCC conferences and will help demystify the process and recent progress, and explore with you meaningful local action directly linked to the international negotiations.

NETWORKING SPACE – Coffee/tea available for chats throughout the event at the Main Hall.

CLOSURE: 5:30 – 5:45 pm – We’ll have a 15 minute plenary summing up the take-aways and deciding the next steps.

Thank you for joining us!
