More than 50 heat network development partners, investors and local suppliers attended a pre-tendering heat network event, edging the project one step closer to fruition.

Plymouth is among the first in the country to advance its zonal scale heat network plans towards procurement stage, one of six cities in England which are being supported by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).

In Plymouth, heat networks offer the potential for a 5% reduction in the city’s carbon emissions as well as air quality improvements. With heat accounting for 26% of Plymouth’s carbon emissions, the scheme is estimated to save more than 47,000tCo2 per annum.

Hosted by Plymouth City Council at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the event included an overview of the strategic context for the heat network, technical, commercial and legal details before opening up for networking between development partners and local suppliers.

The heat network zonal opportunity signposts £400 Million in long term investment in Plymouth and represents a significant economic opportunity supporting green jobs and skills.
