In keeping with the show’s theme of sustainability, the majority of the sets, costumes and puppets have been created locally at TR2, Theatre Royal’s production and learning centre, by a team of around 50 people.

The costume department at TRP already houses thousands of second-hand costumes rescued by past productions or donated by the public, but for The Creakers they wanted to go one step further, sourcing materials locally from scrap and salvage stores.

“We always try to be as eco-friendly as we can, but with The Creakers, we’ve gone the extra mile; scouring local suppliers for certain fabrics or buying second-hand clothing to repurpose. We are still learning as we go, and with each show we do going forward, we will become smarter, quicker and, ultimately, greener.”

Delia Lancaster, Head of Wardrobe, TRP
