The Big Fix returns to Devon – repair, reuse and save money!

Date

27 April 2026

Got something broken at home that you’ve been meaning to fix? Good news! The Big Fix is returning to Devon this May, offering residents the chance to repair everyday items for free instead of throwing them away.

Run by Devon County Council and Recycle Devon, The Big Fix brings skilled volunteers and fixers together with local communities to help repair items such as small electricals, clothes, bikes and household goods.

It’s all about saving money, reducing waste and making things last longer while picking up new skills along the way.

What is The Big Fix?

The Big Fix is a series of free, friendly repair events held at locations across Devon. Residents can bring along broken items and work with volunteer fixers to try to repair them.

Typical items include:

  • Small electrical items
  • Clothing and textiles
  • Bikes
  • Toys and household goods

Not everything can be fixed, but even when repairs aren’t possible, people often leave with new knowledge and ideas for reuse.

When and where?

The Big Fix events will take place at various locations across Devon during May, with dates and venues being added regularly.

Why repair matters

Repairing instead of replacing helps:

  • Cut down on waste going to landfill
  • Reduce the carbon emissions linked to making new products
  • Save money during the cost‑of‑living squeeze
  • Build skills and confidence
  • Bring people together locally

Making things last longer is one of the simplest ways we can all reduce our impact on the planet, and it feels good too.

Get involved

Whether you’ve got a broken toaster, a torn jacket or a bike that needs some love, The Big Fix is a great way to take positive action, meet others and keep useful items in use for longer.

Small fixes really can make a big difference.
