It’s been another inspiring year for our Young Climate Ambassadors – a passionate group of young people aged 11 to 18 who are leading the way for a more sustainable future for the city.
From creating powerful campaigns to exploring cutting-edge green technology, our ambassadors have been at the heart of climate action in Plymouth. Here’s a look back at their incredible achievements from 2025.
Sharing their story
The year kicked off with the creation of a promotional video with FotoNow, giving our Young Climate Ambassadors the chance to share their passion for the planet with a wider audience. The video showcases the energy, creativity and commitment these young people bring to tackling the climate crisis.
Learning from the Experts
In February, the group visited the University of Plymouth to see first-hand how a large organisation is transforming its buildings through renewable energy and innovative solutions from across the globe. The tour provided insight into how green technology can be scaled to power and heat major facilities.
Celebrating Local Climate Legends
In March, Young Climate Ambassador Archie was awarded the prestigious Local Climate Legend award. Archie joined other amazing local changemakers at a celebration event held at Arts University Plymouth, where he shared his passion for creating a more sustainable future. His dedication and leadership are a shining example of the impact young people can have when they take action.
Holding Leaders to Account
The ambassadors showed their deep understanding of climate issues and passion for the planet when they interviewed Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, Councillor Tom Brier-Delve. They asked the tough questions about Plymouth City Council’s Net Zero Action Plan and the city’s vision for a sustainable future.
Going Deep with Ocean Conservation
Over the summer, the group enjoyed a VIP all-access tour of the National Marine Aquarium, led by Dylan from the Ocean Conservation Trust. They explored the vital work being done to protect our oceans and learned about the critical role marine ecosystems play in combating climate change.
Later in the autumn, the ambassadors returned to the aquarium to try out the Ocean Conservation Trust’s new underwater drone, an exciting glimpse into the future of ocean research and conservation technology.
Celebrating Young Talent
In June, Young Climate Ambassador Vivvy was nominated for Young Environmentalist of the Year at the 2025 Youth Awards held at the Crowne Plaza. Vivvy was selected as a finalist out of a staggering 2,000 nominations. While she didn’t take home the top prize, being recognised among such incredible young people is an achievement in itself.
Exploring Nature’s Engineers
In November, the group braved torrential rain to visit Poole Farm and explore the Beaver Trail. While the beavers themselves stayed out of sight, the ambassadors were able to see the remarkable impact these natural engineers have had on the river landscape, a powerful reminder of nature’s ability to restore and regenerate ecosystems when given the chance. The experience was, quite literally, DAM impressive!
Creating a Sustainable Christmas
To finish the year on a festive note, the Young Climate Ambassadors held their last session of the year at the Plymouth Scrapstore, where they rummaged for treasures and created colourful, recycled Christmas decorations. It was the perfect way to celebrate the season while staying true to their commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
