Plymouth City Council
Organisation Bio
Plymouth City Council is the local authority for Plymouth. We provide services and information to many of the area’s 262,700 residents as well as businesses and visitors.
We are one of the largest employers in Plymouth. We employ over 2,500 people, covering a wide range of occupations from low carbon city officers to refuse drivers, park rangers and housing delivery officers.
About our climate journey
We declared a climate emergency in March 2019 and committed to net zero by 2030. Since then we have been working hard to establish a baseline carbon footprint for both the Council and for the city of Plymouth. We have produced two Climate Emergency Action Plans for the city and more recently evolved to a Net Zero Action Plan.
The Net Zero Action Plan combines both strategic commitments and actions into a 3 year delivery plan. It covers two distinct areas: how we will reduce our carbon emissions for those areas we have direct control over and how we will use our powers to help the city as a whole move towards net zero. Activity is grouped under four key themes: 1/ Transport 2/ Buildings, Heat and Power 3/ Consumption and Waste 4/ Behaviour change.
